THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE Trailer Has (Super Villain) Daddy Issues

A lot of teenagers are embarrassed by their parents, but usually it’s because of silly things, like how they constantly harass their friends about what they plan to do with their lives, or because they tell awful dad jokes. Not because they are evil super villains hell-bent on world domination. Of course, most teenagers also aren’t LEGO Master Builders either.

In the second trailer for The LEGO Ninjago Movie, social outcast but secret Green Ninja hero Lloyd (voiced by Dave Franco) is trying to learn from his mom Koko (Olivia Munn) just what it was she ever saw in his father, the terrible Garmadon (Justin Theroux). But Lloyd’s going to have to get answers while simultaneously trying to stop his dad from completely destroying the city.

And if Garmadon wasn’t dangerous enough, Ninjago faces total annihilation from a monster so hideous, a creature so massive, a nightmare so dark, it’s the cutest thing we’ve ever seen:

Meowthra.

The movie, directed by Charlie Bean, Paul Fisher, and Bob Logan, also features Jackie Chan as ninja trainer Master Wu, as well as the voices of Michael Peña, Fred Armisen, Kumail Nanjiani, Abbi Jacobson, and Zach Woods as the rest of the ninja team.

That team was almost needed at Comic-Con this week in San Diego.

Don’t worry, San Diego is still standing. For now.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie comes to theaters this fall, September 22nd. What do you think of this trailer? Does it look like it will build on the success of The LEGO Movie and the LEGO Batman Movie? Construct your thoughts in the comments below.
