THE LEFTOVERS Don’t Look So Happy to Be Alive in New Teaser

If Justin Theroux is good at one thing, it is most definitely doing voiceover work, because his gritty, gravel-filled baritone gives the latest teaser for HBO’s The Leftovers just the sort of atmospheric unease a Damon Lindelof series so readily needs. (This is the man that was the co-showrunner of Lost, after all.) Man, the post-rapture world is a cold one, is it not?

Oh yes, if you weren’t already aware, the television impresario’s latest outing is a doozy of a post-rapture tale with a seriously impressive cast and equally-as-imaginative point of view. The Leftovers looks like far more than the tale of those Earth-bound humans left behind on this little blue marble we call home — there’s a sense of dread, guilt, and a slew of emotional complexities that come with being the crop left behind, and the teaser does well to showcase those with little more than Theroux’s vocal machinations. Life after mass death ain’t so sweet, it turns out.

Adapted from Tom Perrotta’s 2009 novel of the same name, the show stars Liv Tyler, Christopher Eccleston, Carrie Coon, Ann Dowd, Amanda Warren, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Michael Gaston, Max Carver, Charlie Carver, Annie Q, Paterson Joseph, Brad Leland, Amy Brenneman, and Emily Meade. The series is slated to premiere on June 15th — following the season finale of Game of Thrones — at 10/9c.

  1. Ian says:

Actually Xero it is based on a dramatic novel not having anything to do with religion. That’s part of the point, instead of the rapture happening people are randomly taken and no one knows why. Good Christians, Muslims, Pagans, Athiests, agnostics, killers, etc.. It is instead about the people living on in the world trying to make sense of their lives.

  2. Beau Rosser says:

I can taste your cynicism, Xero.
