The JV Club #89: Beth Littleford

It’s a post-Thanksgiving feast of non sequiturs and tangents with the fantastic Beth Littleford (The Daily Show), with a parade of bad perms, bad boys, and good friends to save us from ourselves.

  1. Alec says:

    @Todd Mason

I’d add a touch of Sarah Chalke to the voice recipe.

  2. Vanzant says:

Listening to your podcast it would be awesome if you ever podcasted your high school friend that got you into being a Goth and listening to the cure. She seems to have a large impact, and would be nice get more insight on this special time in your high school life.

  3. Lucy says:

Love Beth! Thank you for this interview.

  4. Beth says:

I just listened to it and am so thrilled I got to be a part of it. Intoxicating… could’ve gone for hours more. What a great gift this podcast is, Janet!

  5. Todd Mason says:

And further condolence to you and the Hardwicks on your loss…

  6. Todd Mason says:

It is, as usual, exceedingly pleasant (at very least) to gain some insight from your discussions with people whose work I’ve admired (even if her role in CRAZY STUPID LOVE wasn’t large enough), who turn out to be charming and witty and kind enough to share stories with us, the hidden strangers out in the audience. Littleford sounds like the kind of friend it’s good to have, even if she belittles herself (if not nearly as viciously as Liz Lemon) jut a little too much. (And as an Alaska-born, I know why extreme weather is nothing to get romantic about…hence my limited sympathy with, for example, the protagonist of INTO THE WILD, and all sympathy for Littleford and her family…) Would that the balance of podcasts was moving away from being stag affairs, but if so, only slowly, so I continue to value your policy here (and Jackie Kashian’s relative evenhandedness in guest presentation vs. the big bunches of Just Us Guys still prevalent). Atop the intelligence, apparent breadth of spirit and talent, Littleford has a lovely voice that complements your own, Janet…and reminds me just a bit of Cynthia Stevenson’s. (Now there’s a useful observation, if true…in case Stevenson needs a shadow looper some day…)

  7. PJ says:

Live music, talking about traveling to Prague and Berlin and other places… I so have to go to Europe again, and see another classical concert, most probably Mozart though Beethoven’s my favorite composer… But I absolutely want to go Prague and visit the Estates Theater, where they shot all the concert scenes in Amadeus, and where Mozart himself premiered Don Giovanni two centuries before.

  8. LovingLyfe22 says:

Loved this interview. So honest. So funny. So lovely. Enjoyed the back and forth between Beth and Janet. Also Janet if you ever interview a guy it would be cool to have maybe Guy Branum or Bryan Safi.

  9. Nichole says:

Interesting discussion – sorry to hear about the story of Beth’s father and brother.
