The JV Club #59: Mindy Sterling

It’s sort of a conversation between Korra and Lin Beifong as Mindy Sterling (Austin Powers) joins Janet in Episode 59, and yes, they DO discuss The Legend of Korra. Other topics include the etiquette of neighbors and barking dogs, the renowned L.A. Groundlings, and the magnetic pull of a funny gentleman.

  1. So cute listening Janet and Mindy saying that they dont know about stuff of the world of avatar. Makes me laugh so much hahaha

  2. janet says:

Can we all just agree that listeners to my podcast are just the AWESOMEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD??!
Guys, thank you so much. I’m going to individually answer these via the intro this week!

  3. Juls says:

I agree, Alec, history always seems so sketchy, morally (although the same could be said about present day).

I think the future would be so interesting and I’m so impatient to know what’s going to happen, but then I think there’s that danger of ‘there are things you’ll wish you could un-know’.

Time travel would be awesome but I think I’d rather they got teleportation figured out first. It’d make visiting people overseas so much easier!

  4. Alec says:

If I had access to time travel, I’d want to check out the future. History is so much more violent and cruel than we like to portray. Even the bright spots of civilization still tended to exist on the backs of slaves/serfs/coal-smeared orphans. I’d like to see all the stuff we’ve figured out down the road that makes our current generation look like huge jerks.

  5. Alexandra G says:

According to avatar wiki : Metalbending is a specialized sub-skill of earthbending that allows an earthbender to ferrokinetically bend processed metal in a similar fashion to bending regular earth. The technique was invented by Toph Beifong.

During a lecture about chakras, Guru Pathik explained to Avatar Aang that metal is merely earth that has been purified and refined. Utilizing her unique ability to “see” using earthbending, Toph was able to perceive the trace amount of “unpurified” crude earth still present in the metal, target it, and use it to bend the purified metal itself.

  6. Scott B. says:

Another great show! Janet, when you were describing a fantasy man who’s very well dressed and has a sword in his walking stick/cane, were you possibly thinking of Patrick Macnee from the 60’s show The Avengers? If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you should try it from Netflix. As for a group name, how about The M.A.S.H.ups?

  7. Rob S, says:

I am up for “Club Kids.” How could you watch Clockwork Orange as a kid. I was 24 and still creeped out by it.

  8. PJ says:

Seeing what dogs dream about may not be that far off…

And there’s some great Korra fanart out there, but there’s also fanart that is not safe for work, not safe for lunch, and not safe for one’s sanity… Then, there’s fanfiction….

  9. Paul says:

@Andrew – JV Team is good. How about JV Squad?

Janet – don’t worry about the length of intros. I don’t think your listeners mind, since it just give us more of you talking!

  10. Andrew says:

Shouldn’t your listeners just be called “the JV Team?”
    ‘cuz… ya know… high school?
I know it’s not super original, but it just seems like anything else would be trying way too hard.

That said, I’m going to try way too hard.
    I propose, additionally: “Veeskateers.”

    My logic:
The Mickey Mouse Club:Mouseketeers::The JV Club:Veesketeers

    Them’s me ideas.

    You’re the best, Janet. : )
