THE HOBBIT’S Thorin and Company Go On Adventures as LEGO Figures

Assembling a company of traveling companions you can trust on an quest is a serious and time consuming undertaking. That’s especially true if you don’t have a wizard like Gandalf on your side. LEGO builder Pate-keetongu put together his group of adventurers based on characters from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit in 656 days with blocks and bricks. As he points out, that’s ten percent of his life. Note to self: never calculate time that way, it sounds depressing.

As you probably noticed, the looks of the figures are inspired by the Peter Jackson films. And he didn’t just make Gandalf, Bilbo, and Thorin, he went for the entire company. The line-up includes Dwalin, Balin, Kili, Fili, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, and Bombur. Instead of hitting the road and going from the Shire to the Lonely Mountain, they only have to prepare to be displayed and maybe go to a few conventions. That’s so much better than facing a dragon or Thranduil.

As Pate-keetongu constructed Thorin and Company, he took the time to photograph each figure and detail the build process. It’s evident that he put a lot of thought into the design. For example, if you look closely at the Thorin Oakenshield figure, you’ll notice he used 1×1 studs to depict the diagonal grid of Thorin’s chainmaille. For Gandalf, he took the time to make the wizard’s scarf with pearl silver plates. It’s no wonder the figures look so great.

Which one of these figures do you wish you could buy? Let us know in the comments.
