The Her Universe Fashion Show Returns to Comic-Con

Fashion has been part of San Diego Comic-Con for as long as I’ve been attending, but it evolved last year with the first ever Her Universe Fashion Show. Ashley Eckstein’s Her Universe just celebrated its five year anniversary and the company has made galactic strides in ensuring geek-flavored apparel is more accessible for female fans. It started with simply making t-shirts designed to fit women and has transformed into full-on chic attire—and that’s exactly what will be on display at the 2nd Annual Her Universe Fashion Show at Comic-Con this year.

The event will feature 25 geek couture looks from designers. Entries last year included items like an Iron Throne dress, a quick-change gown inspired by Regina from Once Upon a Time, and so much more. I expect this year’s outfits to be just as lovely. Two winners will be chosen—the audience picks one and a panel of judges pick one—and those winners will have the opportunity to work with Her Universe and Hot Topic to create a “limited edition fandom collection.” The winners of last year’s fashion show, Andrew MacLaine and Amy Beth Christenson, designed the recently released Avengers line for Hot Topic.

Eckstein will wear different geek couture outfits throughout the event inspired by Princess Leia, Black Widow, and Zujou No Haku. The gowns were designed by MacLaine:

This year’s designers include: Lauren Andrews, Ericka Angiuli, Kelly Cercone, Laura Desch, Daisy Evans, Jessica Gonzalez, Lindsay Hamilton, Kathryn Henzler, Sarah Henzler, Hannah Kent, Kristin Koga, Harmony Leiker, Belinda Mendoza, Jennifer Newman, Emily Ong, Laura Cristina Ortiz, Leetal Platt, Tara Reich, Adria Sanchez-Chaidez, Amy Scott, Kristi Siedow-Thompson, Sam Skyler, Jesse Thaxton, Oseas Villatoro, and Erica Williams.

The event will take place on Thursday, July 9, at 6:00pm PT at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel.

Will you be attending the Her Universe Fashion Show and if so, what do you plan to wear? Attendees do have opportunities to win prizes based on their geek fashion ensembles so you should start putting that outfit together now. Head to the comments and let me know if you’ll be there!
