The GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Soundtrack Just Hit #1 on the Billboard Charts

Apparently, a large swath of the movie-going public really, really love “Hooked on a Feeling.” The Blue Swede jam along with 11 other songs make up Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1,  just reached the number one spot on the Billboard 200.

According to Billboard, the collection of late ’60s and ’70s songs sold 109,000 copies after debuting a week ago in the number three spot. Americans are officially super obsessed.

Throughout the past several weeks, Guardians of the Galaxy and Awesome Mix Vol. 1 have introduced a new generation of listeners to “O-h-h Child” and “Moonage Daydream”, but I feel like a lot of listeners picked this album up for the quintessential ’70s rock vibes of “Spirits in the Sky”. That’s cool though–all these great songs are on the same album and you’ve got a chance to check a lot of classic artists out at once.

This is only one of two Guardians of the Galaxy soundtracks: composer Tyler Bates’ double album score for the movie was released on July 29 from Hollywood Records. If you’re willing to poke around and pay a little more, the album is available on vinyl at a couple of retailers as well. All I know is that I am eagerly awaiting the Awesome Mix cassette release.
