THE GRINCH Has Big Dreams in First Teaser Trailer

Though we’re used to seeing Dr. Seuss‘ famously grumpy creation the Grinch focusing all his energies on ruining Christmas for the people of Whoville, this first teaser for his new feature film seems to show a softer side to the character. In the privacy of his own home, the Grinch embraces a daydream in which he takes to the ice as a figure skater on his way to winning the gold.

Via Entertainment Weekly, this teaser for The Grinch made its debut during the television coverage of the Winter Olympics. Figure skater Adam Rippon even briefly appears in the clip that inspires the Grinch to picture himself pulling off a few tricks on the ice. Granted, we’re not sure if the Grinch will be doing any additional ice skating in his upcoming film.

This is the third adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, following the 1966 animated special and Ron Howard’s 2000 live-action film. Benedict Cumberbatch will be stepping into the title role, following in the footsteps of the Grinch’s previous performers, Boris Karloff and Jim Carrey.

Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures have yet to reveal the full cast list for The Grinch, but it’s exciting to know that Danny Elfman will be providing the score. We fully expect that the film will touch upon the Grinch’s origin before exploring the fateful night that he and his dog Max conspire to steal Christmas from Whoville before making a discovery about who he truly wants to be. Even in this clip, Max’s companionship offers some happiness for the Grinch.

The Grinch will skate into theaters on Friday, November 9.
