THE GOONIES Go LEGO at BrickCon

It’s time to go on a treasure hunt for fortune in the form of LEGO bricks. Let’s start by exploring this massive project starring The Goonies. The 1985 adventure has a special place in my memories, and I know I’m not alone. The Virtual LEGO Users Group (VLUG) members who participated in this build for BrickCon 2014 clearly have a fondness for the film because they poured their time and resources into making this awesome Goonies diorama.

Big projects like this work as follows: one or more people take the lead and coordinate, members of the group claim sections, and then everyone brings or ships completed sections to conventions or gatherings such as BrickCon and assembles the piece. I can’t imagine the precision it must take to make sure crucial scenes and locations are covered, to ensure everyone finishes on time, and to plan it all so that all the contributions fit together. Whew. These collaborations have several moving pieces, but groups manage to pull it off year after year.

Builders contributing to this project include Tyler Halliwell, Davey Sterling, Stacy Sterling, Dennis Price, Betsy Sandberg, Heath Flor, Lee Jones,Chris Phipson, Hans Dendauw, and matt rowntRee. They constructed Mikey’s and Data’s houses, the wishing well park, One-Eyed Willie’s ship, and so much more. It’s a LEGO masterpiece. The above photo shows off Matt’s work on the booby traps.

Does this make anyone else want to get comfy on the couch and watch The Goonies?
