In the first Dishonored, Corvo Attano went to great lengths to put his daughter, Emily Kaldwin, back on the throne of her kingdom. But now, Dishonored 2 is making Emily a playable character as she attempts to once again be the Empress. And it looks like she’s learned quite a bit from her father.
Bethesda has released a stylish new live-action trailer for Dishonored 2, which puts the spotlight and the perspective on Emily, as her voiceover carries the narrative. A “witch” has claimed the throne and deposed Emily once again. But this time, Emily is the apprentice of her father, and she’s more than capable of taking the battle back to the witch. Emily even warns her enemy: “You never thought I would fight back. You never saw me as a threat. You don’t know me, but you will.”
Of course, Corvo is far from absent in the trailer, as he and his daughter ruthlessly cut through the enemies of her kingdom. She clearly takes after him, but it’s an open question as to how far Emily will go to reclaim her birthright…and if she can ever step back from the path of violence that she’s selected.
Dishonored 2 will actually let players pick between controlling Emily and Corvo, but there’s no switching back-and-forth during the game itself. Players will also be able to choose whether Emily and Corvo will kill indiscriminately, or if they will show mercy throughout the game.
Bethesda will release Dishonored 2 on November 11 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.
