It’s a question we’ve all had at one time or another as Star Wars fans. What would I do if the Galactic Empire invaded my home town? Sure, none of us are Jedi, so it would prove to be a difficult time. But it is still a vision that even I have thought of from time to time. YouTube user Kaipotainment decided to do one better, and created a video of that very concept.
Shot at various locations in the Los Angeles area, the video steadily builds on an Imperial invasion force slowly making their way across the city. What starts as a few TIE Fighters taking down fighter planes near the Vincent Thomas Bridge soon brings in AT-AT walkers up the beach in Santa Monica and into the city. More dog fights over the Santa Monica Pier and the TCL Chinese Theatre increase the dread, before the Star Destroyers swoop in over the cityscape and ground forces attack civilians near the Staples Center. Finally an appearance by the Death Star, and an unknown Sith Lord make it apparent the city doesn’t stand a chance.
There is no real rhyme or reason to the video’s layout, other than to add in digital renderings of these iconic Star Wars vehicles into a familiar setting like Los Angeles. While the video doesn’t amount to more than a sizzle piece for Kaipotainment’s use of visual effects, there is a strange poetic-feel to seeing the town built by cinema being attacked by one of the most memorable armies in cinema history.
