New York seems to be the unofficial American home of Doctor Who, at least as far as touring events are concerned. Last year, the World Tour saw its only U.S. stop in the Big Apple, where Chris Hardwick hosted a “Deep Breath” screening and Q&A with Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman, and Steven Moffat, and now another fun live event will only be there. It’s in Brooklyn this time instead of Manhattan, so that’s something I guess.
This year, lucky New Yorkers (and East Coasters in general, provided they want to go out Brooklyn way) will get to see The Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular, an evening of Murray Gold’s music from the past 10 years of the perennial science fiction favorite, complete with select scenes projected on the big screen to accompany, and even some on-stage appearances by some of the more well-known people-in-suits adversaries, like Daleks, Cybermen, Judoon, and Whisper Men. Remember the Whisper Men? They were like the Gentlemen from Buffy without eyes but with top hats.
The event takes place on Wednesday, October 7th, 2015 at the Barclays Center (still British) in Brooklyn with two shows, a 3pm and a 7:30pm. Both will be hosted live onstage by Michelle Gomez, who of course made a splash into the Doctor Who world last series by brilliantly portraying Missy, the latest incarnation of the Master.
This will be the first such performance of its kind in North America (they do it in the UK all the time, natch) so, if you CAN make, it, don’t miss out. Tickets go on sale at 10am EDT on Friday, May 8th, 2015. I am a jealous, jealous man that I live on the whole other coast. Maybe I can get a TARDIS by then…
Will YOU be going to this? If so, can I come with you?
