The Doctor Is a Fairy (Tale)

IDW’s ongoing Doctor Who comics are a skosh behind the TV stories, having just switched from the Tenth Doctor to the Eleventh, but they are about to do something the television show hasn’t attempted in nearly 50 years: putting the Doctor in a fairy tale. Starting in April, writer Matt Sturges’s four-issue mini-series entitled “Doctor Who: A Fairytale Life” will debut on news stands.

According to Sturges in a recent interview with comicbookresources.com, the Doctor and Amy will travel to the year 7,704 to the resort planet of Caligaris Epsilon Six, which has devoted itself to recreating an imaginary world where fairy tales are real. Of course, everything quickly goes tits up and the Doctor, as is his way, is the only one who can save the day. You can read the whole interview with Matt Sturges right meaw and look for the first issue of the miniseries on newsstands in two months.

  1. Scott says:

The Mind Robber (1968) w/ Patrick Troughton, the second doctor, had fairy tale characters in it.

  2. Tori says:

It’s bad enough that I’ve never cracked open a comic book in my life. It’s worse that I didn’t even know Doctor Who comics EXISTED.

    Where do I start?

  3. Jonathan Dennis says:

This is going to be very, very nerdy, but where better?

It was done before in a novel by a couple of friends:
