This morning it was announced that two new series will be joining From Dusk Till Dawn on the new El Rey network. Matador, from Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the Hollywood writing and producing duo responsible for Star Trek, Transformers, and the Fox hit Sleepy Hollow, and the interview series El Rey Network Presents: The Director’s Chair.
According to the official press release, production of Matador begins in March and will be directed by El Rey founder himself, Robert Rodriguez. The show is described as “irreverent and action-packed” and “chronicles the unlikely rise of Antonio ‘Matador’ Bravo, a popular soccer star, who comes to be known as much for his playboy antics off the field as his dynamic moves on it. But what his fans and family don’t realize is that it’s all a cover — in truth, he is a skilled covert operative executing missions for a little known branch of the CIA.”
The network also introduced The Director’s Chair, an hour long series with a ten episode run featuring “the industry’s most notable directors as they engage in a revealing and unexpected exchange about the world of filmmaking.” The first episode to air will be a conversation between Rodriguez himself and legendary horror filmmaker John Carpenter. The Director’s Chair premieres in April 2014.
