During the 90s, one of the coolest things DC Comics did was create the Elseworlds line of comics. They were “imaginary” tales of you favorite superheroes. Clark Kent landing in Gotham instead of Kansas. Bruce Wayne receiving Hal Jordan’s ring. Batman set in the time period of Jack the Ripper. The possibilities were endless.
The line has long since ended, so it’s always welcome when fans take it upon themselves to create their OWN Elseworlds universe. Artist Brittany Williams decided to recreate the DC Trinity (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman) as Samurai Warriors.
Here is the Trinity along with Robin the Boy Wonder. And in this world, what else is Alfred going to be but a pet dragon to give Batman advice (If I can buy that tiny blue dragons are real, then I can assume they talk as well).
Also along for this journey are Superman’s friends from the Daily Planet, Perry White, Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane. I say friend when referring to Lois, because thanks to whatever number reboot we are currently on, it’s hard to depict where those two stand at a given moment.
While I can’t see the normal Batman doing so, I can buy Samurai Bats enjoying a drink or two after a day of fighting.
Here’s one of the Trinity ready for action. This is my favorite, as it shows the personalities of each character the best, down to Batman’s smirk.
Lastly, here is the black and white concept art for all the characters.
You can check out more of Brittney’s art on her website here.
So what say you? Which depiction is your favorite? Is there another time period you would like to see these characters portrayed? Should DC bring back Elseworlds (YES)? Let me know on Twitter or in the comments below.
