The DC ARROW/FLASH Spinoff Now Has a Title: LEGENDS OF TOMORROW

We’ve been waiting with mandibles sufficiently salivating to hear more about the CW’s proposed Arrow/The Flash spinoff, and today we got a big piece of that DC Comics puzzle. While we’ve known for awhile who was going to be in it — Brandon Routh as the Atom, Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold, Dominic Purcell as Heat Wave, Victor Garber as Dr. Martin Stein, Caity Lotz as SOMEBODY OR OTHER, and recent additions of Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Franz Drameh as Jay Jackson, and Ciara Renée as Hawkgirl — we haven’t known anything more than that, really. Good cast, sure, but what’s the show?

We now have an answer. In The CW’s pilot order group of three (which also included Crazy Ex Girlfriend and Cordon) was listed DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, hinting at the time-travel aspect of at least one of the characters, that being Rip Hunter. And on top of that, we also have a brief synopsis!

When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat – one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?

It looks like Rip Hunter is going to be the Nick Fury of this group, to mix my metaphors, and it looks like both heroes like Atom, Firestorm, and Hawkgirl, and villains like Captain Cold and Heat Wave will have to work for the common good/bad/ugly of whatever Hunter needs from them.

This is a pretty interesting development all around. None of these characters are known to work together regularly, and the title has never been used in the comics as far as I can tell. But, this seems like a really awesome setup and a really great way to get some of Arrow and Flash‘s favorite side characters a chance to shine. It’s not an Atom solo show, but it seems like it’ll be just as awesome. Might be the closest TV DC gets to a Justice League show.

What do you think of Legends of Tomorrow, as both a title and a premise? Do you think it’ll be the team up of the millennium or a catastrophic time bomb? Let us know below!
