THE DARK SIDE to Be Adapted By ENEMY Writer

Last month, author Anthony O’Neill released a science fiction novel called The Dark Side as a Kindle e-book through Amazon. Eight months before that, though, 20th Century Fox had optioned the rights to O’Neill’s story in order to turn it into a feature film. The actual physical novel, however, will not be available until June 2016. Now, The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Fox has secured Javier Gullon to write their film adaptation of the book.

Gullon has been making a name for himself around Hollywood right now with an original drama script, called 478, that has interested the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Darren Aronofsky to get involved with it. Some may the also know him as the writer for 2013 indie film Enemy, that starred Jake Gyllenhaal in a duel role.

The Dark Side is a science fiction story set in a future where the moon has been made into a penal colony, and a hard-on-his-luck detective must investigate an android that has gone on a murderous rampage. The novel is the latest inductee into a Hollywood hungry for good genre stories that it refuses to even wait for the source material for their films and television shows to actually exist before buying the rights to them. A trend that seeming started with Game Of Thrones—when HBO purchased the rights to the book series which author George R.R. Martin hadn’t completed yet—and continued when Showtime pursued Robert Kirkman’s comic series Outcast before he’d even written an single issue.
