Everything You Need to Know About Marvel’s CIVIL WAR

Why is everyone I love punching each other?

If you’ve asked the above question, your family is either secretly in a fight club and didn’t tell you, or you’re confused as to what exactly is happening in the trailers for Captain America: Civil War.

The latest entry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a sprawling affair that pits Captain America and Iron Man against each other, dividing the superhero community across ideological lines. While words can hurt, superpowered fists can hurt even more, and the emotionally fraught political argument—of whether or not superheroes should be required to register with the government—turns into Avenger-on-Avenger violence.

With the epic, excellent superhero film garnering rave reviews from critics (myself included, ditto our own Kyle Anderson) and quickly approaching its May 6 release, there’s no better time to do a deep dive into comic book history. That’s right—before Civil War was a major motion picture and after it was a Ken Burns documentary, it was a seven-issue 2006 Marvel Comics series by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven. So before you see the film adaptation, I’m going to tell you everything you need to know about Marvel’s Civil War on today’s episode of The Dan Cave.

Also, in case you missed it, be sure to check out the pilot episode of Secret Headquarters, my new pop culture panel discussion show, which we launched on Monday. I was joined by special guests Alicia Malone (Fandango, Malone’s Movie Minute), Ashley Esqueda (CNET’s Tomorrow Daily), and Kristian Harloff (Collider Movie Talk, Schmoes Know) for a rousing discussion of everything from Civil War to Game of Thrones and beyond:
