Hey there! Welcome to The Dan Cave! Did you just get back from vacation? Because you look super tan.
Did you watch the musical theater mayhem that was Peter Pan Live? It was a sprawling spectacle that brought 9.2 million viewers together to bear witness to one of the strangest, most sexually confused, silliest pieces of television in recent memory. As with last year’s The Sound of Music Live, many viewers, in direct defiance of star Allison Williams’ wishes, tuned in to hatewatch the ever-loving heck out of Peter Pan Live. There’s just something about awesomely bad TV shows and movies that tap into the schadenfreude portion of our lizard brains and fill us with that special kind of snarky joy.
With the holidays right around the corner, many of us will soon find ourselves surrounded by friends and family for extended periods of time…which means that we’ll all be going crazy in short order. So rather than letting that negative energy tear your family apart, why not redirect it into a group snark session with some good old fashioned hatewatching? While you’ll have to wait until December 16th to own this J.M. Barrie-pocalypse on DVD, there are plenty of other delightfully terrible things out there, so I’ve assembled 9 films and TV shows that are just waiting for you to take them down a peg.
What is your favorite thing to hatewatch? Let me know in the comments below or tell me on Twitter (@Osteoferocious) using the hashtag #TheDanCave!
Want even more The Dan Cave? Check out last week’s episode in which Max Nosleeves and I run down the greatest sleeveless movie badasses of all time.
Super bummed you didn’t like The Newsroom but agreed on everything else! Happy Holidays
I tried, John, I really did. On the bright side, you can still enjoy it even though I don’t. Happy holidays to you too!
Dude you are a smug asshole, shut the fuck up.
Well, thanks for watching.
Sweet, I just watched Episode I yesterday, going “WHYYYYYYY did you save JarJar!!” ::face palm::
You should not hate anything. There is so much amazing films and shows out there for everyone to discover that watching something you don’t like is a waste of time and energy. I truly hate that it is becoming a thing to “hate watch”. Also, very let down that something like this is on nerdist. C’mon- be better than this.
edit: You should not hate watch anything. There is so much amazing film and television out there… thought faster than I typed.
I love the Newsroom. But I can agree with you on the rest.
Iron Man 3. ‘Nuff said.
Not gonna lie I teared up a bit while watching Pom Poko that one scene at the end where the one business racoon heard his fellow racoon dogs singing and dancing and ran up to them

Heroes…need I say more?
I like to hate watch just about any Sylvester Stallone movie except for the original Rocky which is actually good. Over The Top may be the best hate watch ever.
Two words that causes me to hate Batman Forever, Jim Carrey.
For some reason, I am a green blog with wing.
Nah man. The Newsroom is awesome. I will agree with you on Mulaney though. I LOVE his stand up, think that Stefon was one of the best characters on SNL in recent years, but yeah I’ve just been disappointed with his show.I hate-watch uber-religious conspiracy theory “doucmentaries” on youtube which claim to show “the reality behind all music peformers and hollywood actors” which is of course the Illuminati/Anti-Christ/Devil. My sister posts them on Facebook all the time. I hate them and I love to hate them.
Stefon was a character created by and played by Bill Hader. What does Stefon have to do with Mulaney??
I was kid when Bateman forever came out and didn’t know any better. Now an adult, it really is an awful movie. But I’ll hatewatch it for pure nostalgia.
Batman forever. Damn auto correct.
Let the history and the hate flow through you.

Wild Wild West, Last Action Hero, Hook, Con Air, and Galaxy Quest.
I unabashedly love Hook and Galaxy Quest, but I’m with you on Wild Wild West.
Awww I feel slightly nostalgic about Batman Forever, probably because I was 5 when it came out. I think the best thing to hatchwatch is Twilight personally….its just terrible!
Twilight is tailor-made for hatewatching.
I didn’t know until today that I lived in a world where “Robin does the laundry using martial arts” is a scene direction someone actually wrote unironically.
And it was then costumed, choreographed, and real human dollars were spent bringing it to life.
But favorite thing to hatewatch? Hmmm… Oh probably David Lynch’s Dune!
Sting is incredible in that movie.
That Terminator trailer… What to say…
What to say indeed.
Dude, I love The Newsroom. I think I will hatewatch the Dan Cave this holiday season! Haha..kidding. You’re cool.
As long as you watch, I’m happy 🙂
