The CW Signs New Streaming Deal with Netflix

Fans of the various programs offered on the CW television network now know exactly where they can find the seasons after they air: Netflix! The streaming service giant announced on Tuesday a new deal with the CW, which will allow subscribers of the world’s premier binge-watching site access to the entirety of a TV season eight days after the season finale airs. So if hypothetically The Flash season 3 ends on Tuesday May 2, 2017, then you can watch all of season 3 beginning Wednesday, May 10. The deal will begin with the 2016-2017 season.

This is the good news, because as most fans who watch the CW shows–Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Jane the Virgin, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend know, Hulu can only store up to five episodes at a time, so if you are six episodes behind you are SOL.

However, the CW and Hulu did not come to terms for a further agreement once their current deal is done in October, as reported by Variety and others. So this means, you will not be able to catch up on CW shows after they air via Hulu as had been the way since 2011 when the initial deal was struck. Instead, the only way to watch CW shows if you don’t have terrestrial television or cable is through the CW’s advertisement-filled website or app. Will it be worth it to you? That’s between you and your TV god.

On top of the shows listed, the new Netflix deal will include Supergirl which is moving from CBS to the CW this fall, as well as the network’s three new primetime programs, Frequency, No Tomorrow, and Riverdale. You’ll get to watch all of those in their entirety on Netflix eight days after the season finale. So, mark your calendars for bingeing accordingly.

Let us know what you think of this new deal, and about watching CW shows not on Hulu, in the comments below!

Oh boy, we called the “Flashpoint” thing way early.
