The Crowdsourced “Star Wars,” Now Feature-Length

In case you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the full two-hour “director’s cut” of Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope pieced together from all the videos posted to Casey Pugh’s StarWarsUncut.com, the fan film site, over the last few years. (In case you aren’t aware of that site, fans take 15-second chunks of the original and remake them any way they want, then post the video there) Dolls, humans, paper cutouts, animation, Lego, Moe Syzlak, Teletubbies, puppets, you name it, someone probably used it, and it took what must have been an eternity of painstaking editing by Aaron Valdez and mixing by Bryan Pugh to string it together into one epic “movie.”

Maybe you’ve been checking out the many submissions at the website, but it takes a lot of, um, I’m not sure WHAT it takes to sit through two hours of it, yet it’s impressive, that’s for sure.

No joke, this is probably the coolest thing I’ve seen in a damn long time. I’d been meaning to re-watch Star Wars for a while now, and now I have… in a very cool, unique way. I watched the whole thing!

Also, I’m already brainstorming ways I can participate in Empire.

I am chuffed to bits that my students’ lightsaber fight made it in to the Director’s Cut. We are thrilled to actually be a part of such a great project.

  4. Wow. My helmet goes off to the guys who made this. It’s a work of art.
