It’s Father’s Day! How about a Special Edition of The Collection with videos all about fathers? I could bring you the obvious:
Or a reference to Rory’s dad on Doctor Who with the unshot what-happened-to-him scene:
Or even something universal, like Dr. Seuss’ Hop on Pop (which is not, despite the name, a text on abusing your elders):
But we are not… okay, I am not about the obvious. So, herewith, some videos as tribute to fathers of all kinds. Like Fathers Ted, Dougal, and Jack:
So it’s six months and change early. It’s always time for Father Christmas:
How about all the guys on Maury who break into dance when they find out they are NOT the father?:
Or this guy who WAS the father and reacted… well, maybe the child won’t want to see this when older:
From the Fearsome Foursome to the prairie, Merlin Olsen WAS Father Murphy:
And from Happy Days to the priesthood, Tom Bosley WAS Father Dowling:
Remember this one, when a military dad came home dressed as Captain America and surprised his son on his birthday? All kinds of awwwwww:
And a quick few book recommendations: first, Drew Magary’s Someone Could Get Hurt, which is very funny in Drew’s customary Deadspin-GQ-Kissing Suzy Kolber self-deprecating semi-profane style, and all kinds of touching, too. Good read, and if Dad has a Kindle, you can make it a last-second, download-it-now gift. If you prefer, you can run out to a bookstore and grab Jeffrey Brown’s Darth Vader and Son and Vader’s Little Princess , also funny and uniquely Nerdist-friendly. Oh, and there’s also Geek Dad Ken Denmead’s Geek Dad: Awesomely Geeky Projects and Activities for Dads and Kids to Share, which is a couple of years old but you can still find around and would be a good item for those of you who ARE dads with young kids. Ken also has The Geek Dad Book for Aspiring Mad Scientists: The Coolest Experiments and Projects for Science Fairs and Family Fun and, if you can find it, The Geek Dad’s Guide to Weekend Fun: Cool Hacks, Cutting-Edge Games, and More Awesome Projects for the Whole Family.
And on that note, may your father, and you, have a wonderful Father’s Day.
Gotta save SOME stuff for next year… Good one, though.
WTF? No CREEPSHOW (1982) Father’s Day segment? C’mon !
