The Collection: April Fool’s, April Fools, and April Fulz

Today’s Collection of random stuff from the Internet is April Fool’s Day-centric, because it’s April 1st and because… okay, I’m not much for April Fool’s gags unless they’re funny and pulled off well. But the quality of the gags this year varied.

Take HBO Watch, a site that is not an official HBO property, gave the April Fool’s thing a shot with a post at its website claiming that Peter Dinklage had been replaced on Game of Thrones by Warwick Davis. See, because they’re, um… well, it didn’t take much time or effort to expose the joke. April Fool’s gags work better when they’re either on some level believable or you might WISH they were real.

In case you missed YouTube’s prank, it’s this video claiming that the end has come for the service and they would be picking a “winner” for best video:

Nicely played. Better than its sister prank, Google Nose, a searchable smell database:

And Google Maps’ “Treasure Mode”:

Sony’s line of “Animalia” tech for pets — headphones for cats, paw-friendly remotes — was obviously a joke, but a good one. My cat wants those headphones so she can even more aggressively ignore us (HT: Mashable):

And Mashable itself announced Troll Appreciation Day, drawing exactly the response you’d expect:

Although they should have written it in ALL CAPS.

Pineapple Express 2? You didn’t even know they were making it? Well, they DID make a red band trailer for it, or, more precisely, they made a trailer that uses the idea of that movie to promote Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen’s celebrity apocalypse opus This Is the End:

And, finally, Funny or Die parodied Kickstarter with “Kickstart or Die,” at which faux Kickstarter projects purported to want to make movies of ’90s TV shows Sliders, Family Matters, Darkwing Duck, and Wings, or a One-Man Show for Baby Sinclair from Dinosaurs (“Not the Mama!”):

Okay, that should hold us for a year. If you saw any interesting pranks, feel free to post ’em below….
