THE COLBERT REPORT Officially Has an End Date

For the better part of a decade, The Colbert Report has served as The Daily Show’s trusted companion through everything from Emmy wins to election night coverage. However, thanks to Stephen Colbert’s unique blend of right-wing parody humor, the show’s slowly gone from being just a companion to The Daily Show and has since moved into a realm all its own. But that’ll all soon change as earlier this year it was announced Colbert would be leaving his famed Comedy Central series for bigger and better things, those things of course being that of David Letterman’s successor on The Late Show for CBS. Knowing that, the next big question that needs answering is, when will the final Colbert Report take place? Well, we now have our answer.

On a recent episode of the series, Stephen himself addressed the people and stated the final Report will air on December 18th. Not too far away at all. Following the series departure, Comedy Central will debut The Minority Report, hosted by Daily Show correspondent Larry Wilmore, in January following Jon Stewart’s return from holiday break.

It’s currently unknown at this time how Colbert plans to celebrate the end of his run – or with what guests – but knowing his (Emmy-winning) brand of humor, we’re sure whatever it is, it’s going to be something insane, irreverent and hilarious. But we’ll say this now, the final guest has to be David Letterman, right? That would be amazing to watch.

Will you be watching the final Colbert Report in December? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. Darklurkr23 says:

I just hope Stephen can do his shtick and not be forced to suck like most non-cable late night

    • Ben says:

He already said that he won’t be doing his character.   However, the best characters are just embellishments of themselves. SO it’s probably going to turn out just fine.

  2. Lorne Hiller says:

I was at the filming of the episode in the picture back in June of 2011. I love Colbert…. Can’t wait to see him on The Late Show!

  3. Hmm, that’s two nights of finales then. Craig Ferguson’s last show is set for December 19th.

  4. Rickman says:

I’ve seen every episode. I will miss this incarnation of Stephen Colbert.

  5. Insightful Panda says:

We will miss you Stephen. Although i have loved how the ‘character’ of Colbert won’t make any reference to the new gig or anything. So i agree, Letterman on in the coming weeks would be hilarious!
