The Chuck E. Cheese Experience is Heading to the Oculus

The birthday party destination/home of 1997 arcade games, Chuck E. Cheese’s, has just announced that they’ll be integrating Oculus Rift into select locations over the next month. You know, for the kids?

The announcement broke over on Yahoo, where the chain unveiled their Oculus-compatible game, Chuck E. Cheese’s Virtual Ticket Blaster Experience. The game will put a birthday girl or boy inside the Ticket Blaster where any tickets they nab can be redeemed in the real world for prizes.

Is Whack-A-Mole just not good enough for kids these days? Chuck E. Cheese’s seems to think so, offering Ticket Blaster as an antidote to their “unprecedented access” to mobile devices and tablets. According to Roger Cardinale, president of CEC Entertainment, Inc. “Our challenge is to deliver an experience not available at home, and there is no doubt virtual reality does just that. Oculus Rift technology is the next frontier in the gaming industry, and we’re thrilled to be able to say it’s part of the Chuck E. Cheese’s lineup.”

This is actually kind of forward-thinking, even if the Oculus tech is still relatively new. Chuck-E-Cheese partnered up with Dallas-based Reel FX Creative Studio back in 2012 to develop new amusements for the chain, and Reel FX, in turn, has been early to the Oculus bandwagon.

A six-week test in three markets began yesterday in Dallas, with locations in Orlando and San Diego joining the program for anyone booking parties over the next month and a half. Please note that there is nothing stopping some of you adults out there from booking grown-up parties and telling us what you think.
