If, like me, you thought the Black Panther was far and away the most exciting character introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in this year’s Captain America: Civil War, then today’s Movie Morsels will be right up your alley: We have the latest on Prince T’Challa’s upcoming solo film! Plus, an update on the World War Z sequel, a red band trailer for Don’t Breathe, and more!
Black Panther
Wondering when the Black Panther film will take place? According to screenwriter Joe Robert Cole, “Our standalone movie will begin shortly after Civil War ends. So weâll be able to see him mourning and him starting to take command as king of his own nation. Lots of things are going to occur within regards to that. The country will be under threat from inside and out so weâll learn what Wakanda is, that nation, as the most technologically advanced nation on the planet. Also, as Wakandaâs rise to prominence happens, it will affect the MCU moving forward which is really exciting.” Read more of what Cole has to say about Black Panther over at Coming Soon.
Black Panther opens on July 6, 2018.
World War Z 2
The sequel to Marc Forster’s sleeper hit World War Z may have no less a director than David Friggin’ Fincher. With filmmaker J.A. Bayona having left the film to tackle the Jurassic World sequel, star Brad Pitt is now deep in talks with his friend and frequent collaborator Fincher. According to Variety, “Fincher and Pitt met two weeks ago to discuss the possibility of Fincher boarding the zombie tentpole. The talks were initially lukewarm, but sources now tell Variety that negotiations are much further down the road.”
Lumberjanes
Acclaimed indie comic Lumberjanes is moving ever closer to the big screen. The film adaptation of the YA favorite by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis and Noelle Stevenson, about a gang of girls at summer camp who run smack dab into the world of the supernatural, has finally found its director in acclaimed short film creator Emily Carmichael. The filmmaker was recently also confirmed to direct the upcoming family action film Powerhouse for producer Steven Spielberg, based on a story by Colin Trevorrow.

Unfortunately for her, he turns out to be more than capable of defending himself…
