Lights some candles and stick ’em in a cake, because we’re having a party to celebrate the debut of this clip from the new IFC series The Birthday Boys!
The Birthday Boys is a new sketch comedy series on IFC executive-produced by Bob Odenkirk (featured in the above clip as a Steve Jobs-type inventor having the ultimate nightmare) and Ben Stiller (no slouch in the sketch comedy world, as proven by The Ben Stiller Show long before he launched into movie stardom), and it is every bit as funny as the comedy legends behind the scenes.
The B-Boys themselves originated as a comedy group out of the UCB Theater in Los Angeles, and though they are all relatively new to the TV viewing audience, several of the group have worked behind the scenes on a few notable projects. Dave Ferguson, for example, has appeared on Adult Swim’s Childrens Hospital and has written for ICF’s Comedy Bang! Bang! along with co-star Tim Kalpakis. Among the cast also featured in the clip are Chris VanArtdalen, Matt Kowalick, Michael Hanford, and Mike Mitchell, all veterans of the local comedy scene in Los Angeles. The Birthday Boys’ own sketch show Hotdoggin was a part of the New York, Seattle and Los Angeles Sketch Festivals.
The series begins October 18th at 10:30/9:30c on IFC.
