The ASSASSIN’S CREED Movie Is Happening

So it looks like we’ll being seeing Assassin’s Creed take a “Leap of Faith” onto the big screen after all. I say “Leap of Faith” not only in reference to the famed acrobatic maneuver we all know and love from the Assassin’s Creed series, but also because that’s exactly what video game movie adaptations tend to be: leaps of faith, with video game films more than often missing the haystack and plunging to their demise.

But all double entendres and metaphors aside, let’s get to the matter at hand. Michael Fassbender, whom you may know from films such as Prometheus and X-Men: First Class, told the Daily Beast that he’s waiting on the script for the Assassin’s Creed movie and that it’s “definitely happening.”

Sure, we knew about his involvement in the movie last year, but since Ubisoft’s original announcement of Fassbeneder as their lead, talks about the film have been subtle. Another interesting tidbit to note is that Fassbender claims to have never played any Assassin’s Creed games:

“I’d heard of it but had never played the game. I don’t have a video game player … that’s not what they’re called. [Laughs] I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they told me the story behind it, and I thought it was very interesting — the idea of reliving memories.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if Assassin’s Creed diehards and video game film pessimists are all cringing and grinding their teeth in unison. But before you guys flip any Ikea furniture, you may like to know that Scott Frank, the gentleman behind the Wolverine screenplay, is taking the helm on the script for this movie. So if you enjoyed Logan’s last big screen outing, maybe there’s hope for you to enjoy the Assassin’s Creed movie as well. If anything, at least you can rest comfortably knowing that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is turning out to be a very good game.

I think michael fassbender would be good as Atair. I can imagine him wearing the famous hood. He has the facial features , and he’s a decent enough actor , but I think Jake gyllenhaal would be awesome as desmond miles. I do however think whoever they pick needs to play the games

  3. Chris says:

Y would he play Desmond has anyone played the game Desmond is in his 20’s not his 40’s I mean come on

  4. Collin says:

No. You’re not in luck that the director of “The Wolverine” is taking this on. He claimed credit for setting “The Wolverine” in Japan when the arc from the 80’s it’s based off of was set in Japan. He also added a bunch of useless, pointless plot points (How about the whole taking away his powers BS*). It’s NOT a good thing. Fans should be worried.

  5. Nichole says:

    Video-game player.

  6. Luca says:

    it looks very cool!!

  7. bastien says:

Oh, and if the movie doesn’t include a lot of Woodkid, then I will be very disappointed.

  8. bastien says:

Apologies for the grammatical errors in that last post. I uh…have a cold?

  9. bastien says:

The only thing that holds Assassin’s Creed back from truly getting the acclaim it deserves for the story, characters, and word it has built is the fact that you have to play a long video game to mine in order to get to that gold.

That’s all well and good for those of us who play video games, but the people who don’t are really missing out on an incredible tale. It’s the best story in video game history, in my opinion.

I think it would be better suited to a high quality animated show (not anime, which is inherently very low quality) than a movie, but we’ll see what happens. And if it gets more people to play the games (as the Hellboy movie once got me to become a devout Mignolaverse zealot), then that’s can only be a good thing.

  10. RG says:

I think the best thing about this is that Ubisoft is making it themselves. Previous videogame movies were handled badly because studios didn’t know to take them seriously, and standing by the source material was never a priority. They simply scooped up properties and let them get made, never actually driving them with any idea of what to do.

  11. Grace Carrillo says:

I’m sure this will turn out well. Produce this with the right cast, producers and staff, and you’ll get one hell of a movie. Plus, you have Michael Fassbender and Scott Frank. Both have shown quite a bit of success on their line of study. This Assassin’s Creed production has the potential to thrive in the charts. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for this one.

  12. RG says:

The rumor is he’s cast as Desmond Miles.

  13. Goj says:

Who is Fassbender cast as, Desmond or someone other than the lead? I am not sure I would buy it if he played Arabic, Italian or Native American (provided this is based on one of the game narratives).

  14. George says:

    “…the idea of reliving memories.”

Oh my god, it’s The Fountain 2.
