Here are all 2,181 miles of the Applachian Trail in under five minutes of stop-motion:
Green Tunnel from Kevin Gallagher on Vimeo.
This is the creation of Kevin Gallagher, a hiker who did the trail over a six month stretch and took photos of each segment. The result was a collection of 4,000 color slides that comprise this video, “Green Tunnel.” It’s been around for a couple of years, but it was only posted on Vimeo a few weeks ago. Wired.com has a feature on it today with a few more details about the production.
It’s not, of course, quite like really being there, but, then again, you can’t do the whole trail in four minutes and 37 seconds, either.

There’s a good movie on Netflix about the Appalachian Trail. The name is Southbounders and it is on Instant Streaming. It has some romantic story to it but watching the trail is amazing too.
Two things I love coming together: the AT and Nerdist. awesome.
