The ANNABELLE Trailer Is Here And It Is Scary

Well, I didn’t see that coming!

The first trailer for The Conjuring spin-off movie Annabelle was released this morning and what the heck? It’s really scary!

Annabelle is the doll featured in the opening scene of The Conjuring who makes her way into the hands of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. After the James Wan directed horror film was a smash hit last summer, a sequel and a spin-off were quickly announced. I will be the first to admit that I rolled my eyes at the news of an Annabelle movie, but this trailer has quickly turned my excitement up to eleven after seeing the apparent direction that the film will take. While the official plot is still unknown one can get a general idea of the story from the trailer below. I don’t want to give anything away so why don’t you watch it and then join me again under the video…

Oh hey! Welcome back. So, that was surprisingly scary, right?

Two things I have noticed that I think are worth mentioning: First of all, it appears that this movie is going to be thoughtfully violent similar to The Conjuring. The depictions of violence in The Conjuring were, I’d argue, unflinchingly brutal, but similarly to what we see in the trailer for Annabelle, very conscious about using implied violence, as well.

The other thing worth noting which I think is incredibly smart is to make it period horror. I think it is much easier for audiences to buy into ghosts, possession and other such supernatural happenings if they don’t have the influence of modern technology looming over them at all times. The atmosphere of a simpler time, I would argue, lets audiences suspend their disbelief for 90 minutes and allows them to be more susceptible to otherworldly horror. But, that’s just me…

What say you, horror fans and non-horror fans alike? Will you go see Annabelle when it hits theaters this October? Tell us in the comments below!

  2. Che says:

Dolls. Damn do I hate dolls, and I don’t even mean the possessed ones. At least they DO something. Normal doll just sit there, those creepy smug faces looking down at you. I hate dolls.

  3. Mary says:

The real Annabelle doll is a Raggedy Anne doll. I wonder if this one is based on true events like The Conjuring.

  4. NoSoapRadio says:

Why don’t they just make a movie based on Night of the Living Dummy? Slappy is an interesting character.

  5. Mike S says:

I’ve had shits that I took which were scarier than that,,,,,

    • Che says:

It doesn’tcount if your shit starts stranglingand calling your mother a cock sucker.

  6. Stephy says:

That try-hard doll has its creepiest dialed up to 11, but a more subtle approach would be scarier.  Not impressed.

  7. Michael Thompson says:

I have trouble with the notion that any parent would ever pay money to give that doll to their child.

  8. No. That wasn’t scary at all.

  9. Erica says:

Hells yeah! I loved The Conjuring and this looks like it’ll be just as scary, if not more so. Crrreeeepppyyyy…..Fun Fact: The fear of dolls is called Pediophobia, which is thought to be a branch of Automatonophobia, which is the fear of humanoid figures.

  10. Can’t wait. It looks great!

  11. Of course I’ll go see it. That doll is creepy as hell!
