THE AMERICANS’ Season 3 Trailer Will Get In Your Head (Don’t Let It! Or Do if You’re a Spy)

Things are about to get mighty twisty and complicated for Philip and Elizabeth Jennings, everyone’s favorite all-American family of Soviet spies, when their FX series, The Americans, returns for its third season on January 28th. The ramifications are seemingly severe as the show picks up in 1982, with General Secretary for the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (a/k/a the country’s leader at the time), Leonid Brezhnev, having just died. Meaning there’s a shake-up that’s a-brewin’ for all those agents involved in the country’s current espionage program — and it is made creepily clear in the show’s new promo.

Scored by a seemingly new (and totally creeptastic) rendition of The Police’s stalkerific “Every Breath You Take” (so ’80s, so perfect), “The operation is what’s crucial,” we hear newcomer Frank Langella ominously posit in a voiceover. “Don’t let your conscious get us killed.”

Langella joins the cast as the Jennings’ new KGB handler — but he’s not the only new addition. The show will also welcome Julia Garner, who’s set to recur as Kimberly Breland, a young woman who unintentionally crosses paths with our Soviet friends, though it feels safe to assume that’s not a wholly good thing for her.

The end of season two left us with many a question, including what the fate of Annet Mahendru’s Nina Sergeevna might be now that she’s facing treason charges back in Moscow. Being a triple agent has its hardships.

It feels safe to assume this will be another bangarang installment of the series. Are you a fan? Let us know in the comments.
