The 23 JUMP STREET/MEN IN BLACK Crossover May Be Back On

During the Sony hacking scandal of 2014, one of the most surprising revelations was that two of the studios’ top franchises, 21 Jump Street and Men in Black were being eyed for a crossover film. And while that project initially appeared to have stalled out, it may actually be happening!

A new report originating from Variety says that The Muppets director James Bobin is in early negotiations to helm the 23 Jump Street/Men in Black movie. Nerdist reached out to Sony for confirmation, but the studio declined to comment at this time.

If the report is accurate, then Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum would reprise their roles as Jenko and Schmidt, but the roles of MiB agents J and K would have to be recast. That could be problematic for the Men in Black franchise, since Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith have been heavily identified with the film series since the first movie came out in 1997. Assuming that the crossover movie is made before the next Men in Black standalone film, though, it could be a good starting point for the rebooted property.

21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are expected to return for the potential crossover, but only as producers. Even if the report is true, there’s no guarantee that Sony will pull the trigger on the project. It could very well happen, but we’re just as likely to see separate movies from both franchises. So I guess all there’s left to do now is drink some sugar water in this Edgar suit.
