THE 100’s First Season 3 Promo Reveals Dark Clarke, Heroic Bellamy, and More

The 100 fans, your time has finally come.

It’s been a long, long extended hiatus since The CW’s post-apocalyptic drama aired its epic season two finale back in March. And when the network announced that the sci-fi series wouldn’t be returning until midseason 2016, it seemed like our long period of suffering would never end. But you can stop your worrying, the end is in sight!

Earlier this month, The CW announced the return date for The 100: season three will premiere Thursday, January 21. And then the real treat came during the Arrow midseason finale: The CW debuted the first trailer for The 100 season three.

That’s right, the first real footage from the third season is finally here! Don’t wait any longer — press play on the video above to watch the teaser trailer now!

The video is short, but damn if it isn’t sweet. After nine months, that first glimpse of Clarke (Eliza Taylor) is like seeing the sun. Sure, she looks grimmer and darker than we’ve ever seen the former leader of the 100 juvenile delinquents sent to Earth at the beginning of the series. But that’s to be expected. She did just massacre an entire civilization living inside Mount Weather to save her own people being held hostage. This, of course, was before she turned her back on her people when she realized she couldn’t look them in the face after committing mass murder to save all of their lives. The last we saw her, she left Camp Jaha to venture out on her own.

In the trailer, we hear an unidentified woman’s voice asking Clarke about “the mountain,” a.k.a. the Mount Weather massacre that is going to make her famous among the Grounder clans. And she replies, with no emotion in her voice, “I did what I had to do. That’s all.”

The 100

But it seems her actions are going to haunt her, as Indra (Adina Porter) tells Clarke’s friends back at Camp Jaha that she’s being hunted … by everyone. You’d think they’d all be a little more grateful that Clarke took out the villains hunting down Grounders to harvest them for their radiation-proof blood. But it looks like Clarke has never been in more danger.

Things back at Camp Jaha don’t seem any better, either. The trailer offers glimpses at Bellamy (Bob Morley) and Monty (Christopher Larkin) being held captive by Grounders, and Jasper (Devon Bostick) crying with his former crush Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos), who seems to be lacking her usual Grounder war paint. Is she back with the Sky People for good after her actions in the season two finale? We also see Kane (Henry Ian Cusick) telling Bellamy that their people believe they’re in a time of “real peace.” But since there are also flashes of armies marching and explosions, we’re guessing that isn’t the case.

Hey, the future isn’t bright. After two seasons of this show, we know that much to be true.

The one thing missing from this action-packed teaser trailer? Jaha (Isaiah Washington) and Murphy (Richard Harmon). They both discovered in the season two finale that the mythical “City of Light” was actually an island housing an A.I. that caused the nuclear holocaust apocalypse that sent humans into space 97 years ago. And now the A.I., who calls herself Ali, has the nuke that Jaha used to get back down to Earth. Is season three bound for apocalypse round two?

What did you think of The 100‘s first season three trailer? How badass does Clarke look and sound now that she’s on her own? Are you excited to see Bellamy step up to lead the Sky People in Clarke’s absence? Where are Jaha and Murphy?! Start speculating in the comments below!
