Terrifying Trailer For HUSH From the Director of OCULUS

It’s been a few years since director Mike Flanagan made us all fairly afraid of our own mirrors with 2013’s Oculus starring Karen Gillan. Not content with household objects giving us the willies, Flanagan plans to take away any safety we feel while relaxing at home with his latest film, Hush.

Written by Flanagan and his wife, actress Kate Siegel, who also stars in the film, the story of Hush revolves around a deaf woman fighting for her life against a masked assailant in her secluded home. Actor John Gallagher Jr. (10 Cloverfield Lane) is listed in his IMDB credits as “Man” so it’s safe to assume he’s the masked antagonist, but his character’s motivations are still unknown. Thinking back to the plot and outcome of Oculus, one can assume that Flanagan will focus less on reasons why things are happening and likely drop us immediately into whatever horrifying events he has planned.

The trailer sets up that Siegel’s character cannot hear or speak which will only add to the feeling of seclusion and make for some interesting interactions especially if dialogue isn’t a big part of the film. There are others listed on the cast so it’s unlikely that it’ll be a completely visual film but with main character being unable to speak or hear, it’ll be interesting to see how exposition is handled.

Hush premieres at this year’s South by Southwest and will be released April 8, 2016, on Netflix. This is great for horror fans that don’t want to wait too long to see a movie in the comfort of their own homes but slightly worrisome considering the trailer already has us turning on lights and checking the locks on our windows.

What do you think of Hush? Think John Gallagher Jr. can pull off being a villain? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
