TERMINATOR: GENISYS Debuts Trailer, Poster, and Explosions Galore

He did tell us he’d be back.

The first full-length trailer for Terminator: Genisys has finally landed, bringing us one step closer to seeing how the Mother of Dragons would handle herself in a robot apocalypse. The answer? With plenty of one-liners, winks, and nods to the films that came before it, of course. You can watch the full-length trailer, which Paramount Pictures just released, right here:

The trailer kicks off in 2029, a bleak dystopian future where John Connor (Jason Clarke) and his resistance fighters are battling an army of Terminator murderbots that are, once again, hellbent on destroying all of man kind. Facing increasingly dire circumstances, Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) volunteers to go back in time to protect John’s mother, Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke), from Skynet’s robotic assassins. Yet this version of 1984 is decidedly different from what we saw in the original 1984 story.

Sarah Connor makes quite the entrance as she introduces a T-1000 to the business end of an armored car before saying, “Come with me if you want to live!” Soon, we learn that not only was the evil T-800 from the original Terminator destroyed, but it was destroyed by an older version of the T-800 (also played by Arnold Schwarzenegger). What follows is a series of increasingly implausible, adrenaline-fueled explosions, action sequences, and school buses doing flips. This timeline may have diverged from what we know, but we can always count on Terminator movies to deliver on high octane special effects-fueled set pieces.

No sign of Matt Smith yet. He’s probably still trapped in the TARDIS. Also, as we mentioned on Nerdist News recently, I still have a sinking feeling that this movie’s big baddie is going to be John Connor. Or, at least, the guy who first typed “Genisys.”

Still, nothing will be as haunting as the dull, lifeless eyes of the Young Arnold Terminator Real Doll.

Last, but not least, here’s the official poster in which Sarah Connor has harvested some unsettling crops:

No mention of Lee Byung-Hun as the baddie? Come on, Nerdist.

  2. McLovin says:

Flipping school bus is supposed to be impressive, but just makes me roll my eyes and chalk this one up as Expendables, with even less tongue-in-cheek 🙁

  3. C3rvantes says:

But the movie has EXPLOSIONS and CATCH PHRASES..How could anything go wrong?

  4. Mickey says:

Where can I purchase the Young Arnold Terminator Real Doll?  LoL

  5. RiD says:

First thought is that it looked like a SyFy tv movie version of T2. That was terribad…

  6. JetpackBlues says:

I have come to accept that this franchise is like every other;  Just keep turning out a movie/TV series every couple of years, based on hype and hope, trying to recapture the magic of the first one or two that launched it.
I’ll probably rent this off iTunes.
Seems it’s about time to start talking Predator reboot with Shane Black.

  7. Mateo says:

    Looks good and cool Woot.

  8. D says:

Already disappointed Matt Smith isn’t in the trailer. And I didn’t know you had to get naked to go back in time.

    • J. says:

Pfft. Those primitive, pre-TARDIS humans. But unless you’re making a joke, that’s explained actually. No inorganic matter can survive the process or something like that.

    • Django says:

Well yeah. Did you see the first movie?

  9. J. says:

Wait. So they’re pulling like a George Lucas or…

  10. Mancrush says:

Emilia Clark looks like she’s going to be the stand out in this.

  11. Kam says:

I’ll withhold judgement (day) for the film itself, but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit my shoulders just slumped.

I agree. Was getting excited for the new movie had some hope. Pressed play and excitement went down a little, then Emilia has her line and I see a bad looking T-800 and a way too old T-800 and began yelling. When the trailer ended I was curled up in a ball in the corner crying.
