Things Take a Turn for the Shakespearean on TEEN WOLF

Slight spoilers ahead for tonight’s episode! You’ve been warned.

You can never take anything for granted on Teen Wolf—especially relationships.

Over the past five seasons of MTV’s supernatural drama, we’ve seen rock solid relationships end for good reasons, for bad reasons, and seemingly no reason at all. We’ve seen death take away love. We’ve seen pretty much just about every incarnation of a breakup there is—and now we’re going to see one couple get all Romeo and Juliet on us now that they’re in opposing packs.

And of course we’re talking about Liam (Dylan Sprayberry) and his first love Hayden (Victoria Moroles). After Hayden’s shocking resurrection as a chimera, she’s now firmly Theo’s (Cody Christian) beta in his pack. Liam was floored to see that she was still alive when she led the police to the pile of dead bodies at the nemeton. So what’s next for these two star-crossed loves?

“Obviously Liam just wants to talk with Hayden,” Sprayberry told Nerdist on set about Tuesday’s new episode. “He sees that she’s completely fine, when the last time he saw her, she was dead. He just wants to know what happened and he’s desperate to get any answers from her now that she’s back from the dead.”

But now that Liam and Hayden are in opposite packs, her resurrection won’t be the only roadblock in their relationship.

“It’s a really cool scenario. It’s like they’re Romeo and Juliet,” Sprayberry said. “They’re from different sides and they don’t know if they should be in love with each other because of their alliances, but at this point, they are. We’ll definitely see a back and forth between them, struggling to fight their feelings since they’re on opposite sides.”

All throughout the first half of season five, fans watched as Theo worked behind the scenes, trying to manipulate Scott’s (Tyler Posey) good pack into become his own dark pack to help protect him against what’s coming: the Beast of Gévaudan. But according to Christian, Theo didn’t think what he was doing was bad by any means, just necessary.

“He wants his pack to see things from his perspective,” Christian told Nerdist on set. “Whereas Scott has always been against killing, Theo believes killing can be justified. The ends will always justify the means in his eyes. He wanted a pack that would share that idealogy and he knew that everyone in Scott’s pack has those capabilities. They’re just being suppressed by their alpha. He wanted to get rid of Scott and bring out those qualities to make his own pack. Obviously that didn’t work out so now he’s got a bunch of failed science experiments that couldn’t stay alive the first time.”

But with the Beast making its way to Beacon Hills, we might actually see the impossible happen: Theo and Scott’s packs might have to team up and work together to defeat it.

“There were these two polar opposite packs—good vs. evil, Scott vs. Theo,” Christian said. “After everything Theo did to Scott and Scott’s pack, now to have to turn around and try to trust each other? It’s going to be tough. Everything that comes out of Theo’s mouth is a lie, so to have to be allies with this person is something that I couldn’t even imagine. But we now have a common ally, so it’s going to be pretty cool to see.”
