TEEN WOLF Season Five-B Premiere Recap: The Race to Save Stilinski

How does it feel to watch a Teen Wolf season premiere and know exactly what’s going on? Pretty good, it turns out. Season five-B kicked off Tuesday night featuring, for the first time ever, a story from the first half of a season that appears to be continuing into the second half. Sure, the MTV supernatural drama is going to introduce a new villain called the Beast, but it ties in to what the Dread Doctors were up in season five-A. Usually, it takes about three or four episodes for us to understand what exactly is happening, so this is a really nice change of pace, no?

But you know what’s not so great? The toxic place in which Scott and Stiles’ friendship is presently stuck. We’re going to need these two to sit down and have a heart-to-heart so they can get over their issues ASAP.

This latest season premiere began with, once again, a flash forward to Lydia’s situation at Eichen House. But this time, we (finally) learned why she’s there. After Theo dug his claws into her neck, Lydia went practically comatose, leading her mother to transfer her to the Eichen House for her own well-being (incidentally, Parrish had vowed to get her out of there, even if he had to break her out himself). But this would prove to be a huge mistake: The creepy doctor literally drilled a hole in Lydia’s head to amplify her powers, hoping to figure out why Theo let his sister die that night on the bridge when they were kids.

Turns out, he needed her heart, and the Dread Doctors transplanted it into him when he was 10. That made him a genetic chimera—the first one. He was the first step towards the Dread Doctors making the perfect killer. In other words, the Beast that we all know is coming to Beacon Hills.

But their conversation about Theo was cut short, since the chimera pack infiltrated Eichen House to kidnap her. They want to use her to get to Parrish, a hell hound, but he found them first.

Back in the present, Stiles’ dad, Stilinski, was still really badly hurt after his attack. Even after pulling through surgery at the hospital, his problems persisted—Stilinski was being poisoned from the inside out, but the doctors couldn’t figure out why.

Meanwhile, Parrish had a vision of Lydia telling him he’s a harbinger of death and that someone is dying, leading him to realized that Lydia was missing. He found her out in the woods, practically comatose, and brought her to Scott. Scott had been hitting rock bottom in his bathroom, since he was still really hurt from his fight with Liam and blames himself for failing his pack, but he pushed through the pain after he realized Lydia was trying to warn them that Stilinksi was dying.

Scott raced to the hospital with Parrish and Lydia where he was attacked by Stiles, angry at Scott for not protecting him and his father against Theo. They figured out Theo dug through Lydia’s mind for information, and Stiles decided to face Theo on his own. Listening to the pair’s conversation, Scott observed that Theo was surprised to hear that Stilinski was still dying from some toxin, and realized that it must have been another chimera (not Theo) who attacked Stiles’ dad. From there, they tracked the only missing teenager in Beacon Hills, along with Malia (who Stiles did not want to see since they “kind of” broke up).

They found Noah, the final chimera, but the Dread Doctors were right on their tail. Scott and Malia gave Stiles and Noah time to escape by fending off the Dread Doctors… with Papa Argent’s help! Turns out, Scott called him for help, too.

While Stiles and Noah ran, Noah transformed with bone fragments poking out of his skin, and Stiles realized a piece of his bone must have broken off inside Stilinski, and the marrow was what was poisoning him. The doctors opened Stilinksi back up and found the piece of bone—he’s going to be okay!

Meanwhile, Liam was taking his girlfriend Hayden’s death really hard. And when he caught her scent on the wind, he got really confused since he thought she was still dead. Mason tried to convince Liam to let it go, but he couldn’t. They found out no other dead bodies were taken to the hospital, so they decide to set their minds at ease by going to the nemeton and seeing her body. When they got there, they realized four bodies were missing, including Hayden’s. But before they could do anything, Hayden showed up—alive—with the police. Why did she bring the police there? Is she trying to set up Liam to take the fall for the dead bodies? Why wouldn’t she immediately go to Liam when she was resurrected? So many questions!

Later, Theo took Hayden to try to find Noah, since they were supernaturally drawn together for some reason. When she felt him dying, they realized the Dread Doctors were already on their way to kill him and it was a lost cause. Theo was pissed. Turns out they could have “used him” for something. What is he so afraid of? The Beast? The Dread Doctors?
