Next Tuesday, July the 30th, the Nerdist Channel will be premiering a short film entitled The Final Moments of Karl Brant, a science fiction story written and directed by award-winning graphic novelist M.F. Wilson. The Final Moments of Karl Brant explores the concepts of technological singularity and transhumanism. These concepts, popularized by futurist Ray Kurzweil, draw into question what might happen when humans and their technology are combined.
The film stars Paul Reubens (Pee-wee Herman), Janina Gavankar (True Blood), Pete Chekvala (A Relationship in 4 Days), Jon Sklaroff (The Comeback), and Fay Masterson (Eyes Wide Shut) and will be available to watch in its entirety next Tuesday. For now, though, enjoy this teaser trailer and take five days to prepare yourself to join the digital collective.
This looks pretty cool. And a sweet thing for Nerdist to have.
I like it, the tech design has a very retro feel to it (the device itself reminds me of an old PC box from the 90’s, complete with a SCSI-like adaptor), which creates an interesting juxtaposition against the very futuristic themes. It’s great to see Paul Reubens flexing his range. I’d love to see more of him.
Overall it feels very noir and stylish, which does run the risk of becoming gimmicky, but I’ve got high hopes and I look forward to checking it out next week.
