Over the weekend, the best of the best in the world of Call of Duty eSports went head to head at the CoD World Championships in Inglewood, California. Of over 1,000 teams entered into the Call of Duty World League competition, only 32 made it to the final showdown at Call of Duty XP. The thrilling four-day competition came to a close on Sunday when Team EnVyUs (NA) defeated Splyce (EU), and claimed the winner’s share of $2 million (the biggest purse in CoD history). For a taste of the intense action, check out the video above.
On top of the historical winner’s pot, the 2016 Call of Duty World League Championship marks the end of the league’s first year. It was also the first time in CoD history that a European team joined a North American team in the finals. Splyce climbed its way to the number two spot after knocking out American favorites like Faze Clan and Rise Nation.
Though the top four sports are typically claimed by North American teams, Splyce was joined by fellow EU team FAB Games in the group. The top four spots were held by: Team EnVyUs (NA), Splyce (EU), Team eLevate (NA), and FAB Games (EU).
The $2 mil was dispersed between the 32 teams as follows:
- 1st place: $800,000
- 2nd place: $250,000
- 3rd place: $150,000
- 4th place: $120,000
- 5th through 8th: $50,000
- 9th through 16th: $30,000
- 17th through 32nd: $15,000
Team EnVyus defeated Splyce 3-1 in a best-of-five series. After seeing how great they looked at the Stage two finals back in July, it’s no surprise Team EnVyUs came out on top. They dominated all weekend, taking teams out left and right. All of that, of course, comes down to their great teamwork.

âWinning this event in front of this crowd is a dream come true,â said Jordan âJKAPâ Kaplan, Team EnVyUs team captain. âThe energy, the tension, and the competition were all amazing. This is a moment that I will remember for the rest of my life.â
All in all it was a great first year for Activision’s new league. According to the publisher, leading up to the Championship, prior to this weekend, fans have viewed more than 1.1 billion minutes of content across 100 million tune-ins. Couple that with how packed the sold-out audience was over the weekend and it’s safe to say the Call of Duty franchise has both feet firmly planted in the world of eSports.
âCall of Duty XP was an epic fan celebration, and the perfect place to host the biggest Call of Duty competition in history,â said Rob Kostich, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Call of Duty, Activision. âThe excitement and energy today was huge. What a great finals match and tournament. We created the CWL to celebrate great competition and the best fans in the world. Today lived up to every expectation. Congratulations to Team EnVyUs and thanks to the entire Call of Duty community for making Call of Duty XP the most amazing fan celebration in the world.â
