The road leading to True Detective season two has been a bumpy one, mostly in regard to its casting. Though the new season of HBOâs anthology drama was initially rumored  to feature a primarily female driven cast, those assumptions began to tumble when stars including Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn (both of which have since been confirmed by HBO) were thrown in the mix. However, as current reports state, the new season will feature three main cast members⦠so the big question is, who will be completing the trifecta? If the latest news from the flat circle of time is to be believed, the answer is a former Friday Night Lights star.
In an interview with AdWeek, actor Taylor Kitsch (whoâs also been rumored to be joining the cast for some time now) reportedly confirmed his role in the show, saying, âIâm really excited. Iâve just been prepping. Itâs been almost a full year since Iâve been on camera, so Iâm itching, man. Iâm overdue. Youâve just got to grind it out. Even taking this year off was, I mean you want to work, but you also donât want to just water it down and work for the sake of working. So, it was tough to sit a year out, keeping a finger crossed that I was going to get True.â The report does clarify at the start of Kitschâs statement that sources say while a deal is happening, it has yet to be locked in, thus the reason for no current response from HBO.
If youâll recall, an actor spilling the beans in an interview is exactly what lead to Colin Farrellâs casting confirmation by the network. So, if patterns hold true, we wouldnât be surprised if HBO drops an official confirmation sometime this week. While his movie careerâs been a bit bumpy over the last couple years, fans still hold Kitschâs work on Friday Night Lights in high esteem, so to see him return to television would be a great treat for many.
