Tatiana Maslany and the ORPHAN BLACK Team Stand Up to Bullying for #SpiritDay

When you’re a perceived outsider to the rest of society, times can be, well, tough. People don’t understand you, bullying happens — and it’s perhaps something to which many of the clones on BBC America’s Orphan Black can relate. Which is why the cast and crew — officially rolling out production on season three (!!!) — are standing strong as anti-bullying allies and imploring everyone to wear purple for Spirit Day.

The annual event — which is taking place right now (if you’re reading this on October 16th!) — was started by GLAAD in order to raise awareness of, and hopefully eradicate, the bullying that so often falls upon those in the LGBTQ community.

Even the Hendrixes wore purple on set today!

In the video below, clone of all clones, Tatiana Maslany makes a case for wearing purple to show your support alongside Sarah’s foster brother Felix (Jordan Gavaris) and Elizabeth’s former police partner Art (Kevin Hanchard). Also showing their support? The myriad faces that make the Clone Club magic happen behind the scenes, including co-creator/writer Graeme Manson (whom you may all remember from our SDCC chat with he and the series’ other co-creator/director John Fawcett).

It’s no surprise the series has taken up arms (and donned the hue) in support: as Maslany mentions in the video, there’s an ardent contingency of vocal and excited LGBTQ fans that call themselves Clonesbians who take great pride in the series’ thoughtful and inclusive depictions of non-heteronormative relationships and people, including transgender clone Tony and the relationship between clone Cosima and her monitor/girlfriend, Delphine. Plus, you know: it’s just good manners to not be a total jerk to people just because of who they sleep with or how they present themselves to the world. It is 2014, after all.

Are you wearing purple for Spirit Day? Let us know in the comments!
