Taron Egerton Talks About Maybe Playing Young Han Solo

Last week we told you about the actors who were apparently the finalists to portray everybody’s favorite scruffy looking nerf-herder, Han Solo, in the Star Wars anthology movie by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Among the names were people like Miles Teller, Alden Ehrenreich, and Taron Egerton. That’s some pretty august company to be in for anybody, let alone for very young actors. Egerton was on the UK’s Jonathan Ross Show and was asked about the rumor. The answer was particularly diplomatic.

“I’ve heard this rumor, yes,” Egerton said. “I mean I’ve seen the stuff on the Internet, and I think any lad of my age would kill to play a part like that. It’s very, very flattering. I’ve no idea if there’s any truth in it but I mean, Lucasfilm, Disney, if there is then you know where I am.”

Egerton was on the Ross show to promote Eddie the Eagle along with co-star Hugh Jackman, who knows a thing or 90 about portraying a beloved character in a long-running franchise. Hugh jokes that Disney has been on the phone to him about the role, perhaps. But maybe he’d be better suited to Chewbacca? Well, Egerton’s got him beat there, too, offering a pretty damn spot-on impression of the 7-foot Wookiee.

Egerton rose to stardom quickly on the back of his lead role in last year’s surprise hit Kingsman: The Secret Service and has already committed to both a sequel to that film and Robin Hood: Origins where he’d portray another famous ruffian in the early part of life. Is this… is this gonna be like his “thing” now?

What do you make of Taron Egerton as Han Solo? Who would you put your money on? Let us know in the comments below!
