Tarantino’s Ultra Panavision Roadshow Decision for THE HATEFUL EIGHT is Glorious

Listen here, partner; you might not like Quentin Tarantino and you might not even like western flicks, but let’s give Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight some credit for providing a rare experience with his limited roadshow screenings in Ultra Panavision on December 25. What is a roadshow, Mr. Samuel L. Jackson asks? Watch this video, which was originally shown at San Diego Comic-Con, and learn about this wonderful viewing opportunity.

Movies with vast scenes of the wilderness and detailed, colorful close-ups were filmed and screened in this format while treating the audience to an evening as grandiose as the opera. But in the world of cell phone-sized movie viewing on Netflix or Hulu, some films have missed out on the 70mm experience (I’m looking at you, Crimson Peak).

During its initial stages, Tarantino was dead set on providing audiences the chance to marvel at the roadshow experience which he deeply admires. Remarkably, Tarantino and his creative team alongside Panavision refurbished original 70mm lenses for retrofitted cameras in order to shoot in the snowy wild west. And with the help of Robert Richardson, lead cinematographer from such films as Platoon, JFK, Natural Born Killers, and a handful of later Tarantino-directed films, Hateful Eight will successfully capture the filming quality of past Ultra Panavision films.

The visual experience alone will elevate the entire cinematic event in theaters. Hateful Eight‘s cast and crew are also 100% behind Tarantino’s decision for the roadshow version, mentioning how powerful and beautiful it will be for audiences. Not to mention, the roadshow version comes with the early release perk and 6 extra minutes!

Will you take Samuel L. Jackson’s advice and enhance your dope Hateful Eight viewing to be EVEN DOPER with the roadshow version? Let us know below!
