Talking New HELLBOY, TRANSFORMERS Origins, and the Glory of Jeff Goldblum

It seems that you can’t get through a week in earshot of the entertainment world without hearing news of yet another reboot, revival, or reimagining. The latest pop culture body to be exhumed is, at least, one with experience in being dug up from the nether realm. Host Dan Casey and Nerdist’s own Kyle Anderson and Joan Ford kick off today’s Nerdist News Talks Back with a few thoughts on Mike Mignola’s announcement on an upcoming Hellboy cinematic reboot–this one without director Guillermo del Toro or star Ron Perlman, but stacked with The Descent‘s Neil Marshall, Stranger Things‘ David Harbour, and a hard R rating. If you’re not quite sure what to make of this new recipe for an old favorite just yet, watch as Dan, Kyle, and Joan share their thoughts on the future of the cigar-chomping paranormal investigator.

Speaking of otherworldly beasts, Nerdist News Talks Back’s next topic concerns that saucy, sassy jazz master and actor extraordinaire: Jeff Goldblum. As you’ve likely heard by now, Goldblum will be reprising his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm for Jurassic World, which he chatted with Entertainment Weekly about just this morning. For this most special of subjects, we welcome a very special guest in Nerdist News editor Matt Caron to wax poetic about the heavenly glory that is the Brundlefly. And worry not–we’re not just limiting our Goldblum-relevant discussion to matters reptilian; we’re also diving into Goldblum’s role in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok.

And if the Dr. Frankenstein within you is not satisfied by the hybrids of man-and-devil (Hellboy) or man-and-angel (Goldblum), perhaps you’ll be sated by man-and-car-and-robot-and-alien-and-dinosaur-and-bumblebee. Our final topic of discussion today will be Transformers: The Last Knight, whose latest trailer has just revealed a mind-blowing twist regarding our automated friends: they’ve been among us for centuries. And if that weren’t mind-blowing enough, the sheer notion of Anthony Hopkins saying “dude” should do the trick.

What do you think about this new direction for Hellboy, this latest reveal from the Transformers universe, or the general majesty of Jeff Goldblum? Watch Nerdist News Talks Back, and let us know!
