Last week, I ventured into Hollywood to check out the premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy. I ran into my boss, Chris Hardwick, Guardians co-writer Nicole Perlman, actor Sean Gunn, and Nova Corps member Peter Serafinowicz. We’ve got some spoilers ahead, especially when we talked to Serafinowicz, so be cautious in your viewing if you want to go into GotG unmarred.
Gunn oversaw a hell of a team, but it would have been very lacking without the world and character building of Nicole Perlman. Perlman is not just the brilliant screenwriter of Guardians of the Galaxy, she’s also the first woman to write a Marvel movie! Perlman has been prepping the script for Guardians for several years and filled us in on the script she built before James Gunn added his flair. Also on hand at the press line was Sean Gunn, who spoke with us at length about his efforts as both Kraglin in the film as well as the on set actor portraying Rocket Raccoon. Bradley Cooper may get the final lines, but on the set it was all Sean.
** Spoiler Alert **
Peter Serafinowicz also came by to talk about his brief but important arc. Serafinowicz is educated in his characters’ comic book roots and hinted that his name might be his saving grace. Denarian Saal is a possible play on the name of Garthan Saal, the sole survivor of a Nova Corps battle in the comics — the same run that the finale of the film is loosely based on. Is Serafinowicz telling us he’s coming back as Nova Omega? It looks like the Marvel Cosmic Universe is going to have a lot of options when it returns in Guardians 2.
Guardians of the Galaxy is in theaters now. You should see it. Twice.

Fuck that proprietary video player. It played the ad on my tablet, but it won’t play the video.
Denarian is a rank more or less.
