Take-Two Hints at More BIOSHOCK to Come

At the recent MKM Partners Investor Day in New York, Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, spoke to the gathered crowd on the future of Take-Two and their properties. According to GameSpot, the subject initially turned to BioShock creator, and former co-owner of Irrational Games, Ken Levine. While Zelnick remained tight-lipped on what Levine’s newest project might be, he assured everyone they should expect something “highly creative and innovative.” The big question on a lot of minds, though, had to do with the future of BioShock itself. Zelnick made sure to address this as well:

“The franchise is in the hands of 2K. They’ll make announcements in due time about any upcoming releases, but BioShock is unquestionably a permanent franchise for our company and one that we do believe in.”

It is not unusual these days to see a popular game series be continued by a company, even after the creator and developers behind it have moved on to something else. While Bungie went off to work on Destiny, Microsoft built 343 Industries out of the people who stayed behind in order to continue the Halo franchise. Microsoft also handed their Gears of War franchise over to The Coalition after the departure of Epic Games. So, while Zelnick has offered the world more BioShock games, the biggest hurdle to overcome will be whether the series can remain as successful without Levine and his crew at the helm.

Do you think Take-Two should venture forth with BioShock, or should the series die with Irrational Games? Let us know in the comments below.
