Sylvester Stallone Will Star in OMERTA TV Series

After appearing in over 60 films across the last four decades, Sylvester Stallone is coming to television in his first leading role. Stallone has signed on to star in Omerta, based on the last novel by The Godfather author Mario Puzo.

Deadline broke the story about Omerta, which is apparently in the final stages before the project will be offered to television networks and streaming services. Stallone will portray mob boss Raymonde Aprile, a man who is described as “the last great American Don.” Stallone’s involvement will likely help Omerta land a straight-to-series order.

Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) is slated to direct Omerta for The Weinstein Company, and the script has already been written by Justin Herber and Adam Hoff. Omerta is apparently coming together very quickly, as Deadline notes that a female lead and a showrunner will be named shortly.

After Stallone’s Oscar-nominated return as Rocky Balboa in Creed, it was widely expected that Stallone would go after more dramatic roles in cinema. However, Omerta could also give Stallone’s career a boost by giving him a role that steps outside of his iconic persona. That could actually lead to Stallone being offered more films. And if the scripts are well written and Stallone delivers a great performance in Omerta, then don’t be too shocked when The Weinsteins starting pushing Stallone for an Emmy nomination.
