Things are getting downright scary over at Syfy these days, and that’s going to make a lot of horror lovers very happy. The network is double dipping into the genre with two new series based on book adaptations, which prove that under the right/wrong circumstances, high school can be just as dangerous as outer space. And based on the first look at Deadly Class and a new teaser for Nightflyers, we’re not sure which one we’d have a better chance of surviving.
Deadly Class, based on the 2014 Image Comics graphic novel by Rick Remender, is executive produced by the Russo Brothers, best known these days for directing the surprise indie hit Avengers: Infinity War. MCU fans will be excited to hear them say this new series, which “follows a homeless teen recruited into a storied elite private school where the worldâs top crime families send their next generations,” will have the intense action of Captain America: Winter Soldier (as well as Benedict Wong). Comic book fans will be happy to know Remender himself says the show is “authentic, honest, and brutal.” If you thought high school was difficult under normal circumstances, it’s a cake-walk compared to sitting in class with a bunch of other murderous sociopaths.
Not content to let high school be the deadliest place on the network however, Syfy also released a short new teaser for their adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s space horror novella Nightflyers, which asks what happens when a haunted house takes flight through the cosmos.
The nice thing about a haunted house, and even a high school whose curriculum is murder, is you can at least run outside. Not really an option on a spaceship.
