SXSW is one of the best festivals for fans of movies, music, technology, and comedy; every year, fans look to the Austin-based event to tell them what the next cool thing in pop culture will be. In addition to feature films, SXSW has an impressive short film lineup and just a few days ago the 2016 picks were announced. One of those films, Night Stalker by New Media Ltd and Ooh La La Records, is currently living on Vimeo, and boy, is it something else. Included in the “Midnight Shorts” category that promises “bite-sized bits for all of your sex, gore, and hilarity cravings,” Night Stalker is a horror love story with rad tunes by the band Fort Lean, incredible visuals, and sick animation that takes the aftermath of food poisoning to a whole new level. Trust us, you’ll never look at karaoke and funky Chinese takeout the same way again.

It’s worth nothing that short films that go viral online frequently become the inspiration for feature horror films in Hollywood. Since shorts like Mama and Lights Out are being adapted for the big screen with the guidance of major industry players, could Night Stalker be the next on the list? I don’t know about you, but with a little bit of imagination, I could definitely see spending 90 minutes in this trippy, animated world.
Night Stalker from New Media Ltd and Ooh La La Records will play Austin’s SXSW festival this March.
