Warning: spoilers from season nine of Supernatural follow.
The Winchesters have been on television and in our lives for ten years. Can you believe it? Supernatural heads into season ten in just over a month, and they’ve completely changed the game to keep us on our toes. Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) become a demon, Castiel’s (Misha Collins) losing his grace, Crowley (Mark Sheppard) seems to be in prime position to leverage chaos, and Sam (Jared Padalecki) will be doing everything he can to get his brother back. Given all that, the tagline featured in the season ten poster is right on the nose: “Wrestle Your Demons.”
There’s the obvious reference to Dean’s black-eyed transformation – which, holy Impala, I can’t wait to see Demon Dean – but he’s not the only one struggling. The cast and producer Jeremy Carver appeared at San Diego Comic-Con and hinted at some themes during their panel. We’ll find Sam in a hard place and willing to do almost anything to bring Dean back to Team Light Side; he has to wrestle with his demons to determine how far he’ll go.
And with Crowley, it may be more literal. Carver hinted that Crowley may get more than he bargained for with Demon Dean, and the King of Hell could have trouble keeping Dean in check. I’m glad Sheppard is a series regular because more Crowley is always a good thing, and I’m looking forward to seeing him and Dean team up.
Supernatural premieres on The CW on Tuesday, October 7th, at 9:00pm ET/PT. It follows the series premiere of The Flash. A series retrospective will air the night before on October 6th at the same time and will feature the cast and executive producers discussing the road so far and teasing what’s ahead in season ten.
